4 Tango

(Lithuania)

The creative activity of 4TANGO musicians started in 1999, when the first Lithuanian tango performance was put up at the festival Vilniaus Dienos (Vilnius Days). The members of the ensemble are the laureates of the national contests and finalists of the international contest A. Piazzolla Music Award that took place in Italy in 2002.

They gained recognition at international festivals of accordion music, the Great Parade of Musicians, St. Christopher Summer Festival.

In 2002, they made records of traditional tango songs featuring soloist J.E. Gimenez and in 2004, recorded a CD of A. Piazzolla’s tango, featuring soloist B.Bublytė. The same year 4TANGO recorded a CD of A. Piazzolla’s music, featuring flutist from Taiwan Li Ming Chen.

In 2005, 4TANGO created new tango programs with two prominent figures of music and culture of Lithuania- chorus “Jauna muzika” (Young Music) and soprano Judita Leitaitė. The ensemble popularizes the works of M. Kagel, I. Stravinsky and other modern composers.

The musicians are all graduates of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre: Kristina Žebrauskaitė (accordion), Feliksas Zakrevskis (grand piano), Birutė Bagdonienė (viola), Donatas Bagurskas (contrabass). The two latter musicians are the concertmasters of St. Christopher’s Chamber Orchestra.
